Honorary doctor degree from the Ivanovo State University
The Ivanovo State University of Chemistry and Technology (ISUCT) in Russia decorated Prof. Rudi van Eldik with the honorary doctor degree in recognition of his exceptional scientific work in the field of coordination chemistry and his contribution to the development of the university in Ivanovo. This is the fifth Doctor honoris causa for Prof. van Eldik. He was awarded with the doctorate during his visit to the Russian Federation in early June 2012. On this occasion, he also held a scientific lecture in Vladimir, one of Erlangens twin towns.

Fourth honorary doctorate for Prof. van Eldik
The University of Pretoria (South Africa) decorated Prof. Rudi van Eldik with the honorary doctor degree in recognition of his pioneering studies in reaction kinetics and his service to the global science community for more than 30 years, as well as for his exceptional contribution towards finding solutions for pressing environmental and biological problems in the world and Africa.

Honorary doctorate from the Jagiellonian University
On May 26th 2010 the Jagiellonian University in Krakow decorated Prof. Rudi van Eldik with the honorary doctor degree for his outstanding scientific work and his contribution to the graduation of a huge number of Ph.D. students from Poland. On this occasion almost all members of our research group joined a partnership workshop in Krakow. For Prof. van Eldik this is the third Doctor honoris causa. He is already decorated with a honorary doctorate of the South African Potchefstroom University (1997) and the University of Kragujevac in Serbia (2006).

Magic Show 2009 - The final curtain
As in the previous years, our Magic Show 2009 was a big success! Following the performances for pupils from regional schools and students, there was also again a fund-raising show. As in the years before funds were collected for the "Der-Beck Kinderfond-Stiftung", an organisation caring for indigent children from the surrounding area. Similar to last year we were able to collect 10.000 Euros for this purpose.
This years grand final was the Magic Show as part of the "Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften (Science Night)" in Erlangen were two shows were performed live on stage and could also be seen as a live broadcast in several lecture halls all over Erlangen.
As "Magic Rudi" is going to retire next year we want to say "thank you" for your long-standing faithful and enthusiastic support of our show. The enormous interest in the Magic Show and chemistry motivated us to always give our best - for chemistry and also for you, our supportive audience.

IRMG Meeting 2010
Rudi van Eldik is Chairman of the 39th "Inorganic/Bioinorganic Reaction Mechanisms" (IRMG) Meeting in 2010. The conference with about 170 scientists from all over the world is taking place from 7 - 10 January in Kloster Banz near Bamberg, Germany. All informations about this meeting can be found on the IRMG 2010 Homepage.

Prof. van Eldik receives "Inorganic Mechanisms Award"
Prof. van Eldik has received the "Inorganic Mechanisms Award" of the "Royal Society of Chemistry". He was awarded for his pioneering use of high pressure techniques for the study of inorganic mechanisms and for his studies of mechanisms of reaction of diatomic substrates with transition metal centres.

Prof. van Eldik awarded with Cross of Merit
In April 2009 Prof. van Eldik was awarded with the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Federal Republic of Germany (Verdienstkreuz am Bande der Bundesrepublik Deutschland) by Germanys President Horst Köhler. Van Eldik was honoured for his outstanding scientific work producing over 700 publications so far, as well as for the Magic Show which attracts the general public for chemistry and furthermore raises high sums for a good cause every year (Press report).

Magic Show on TV
In early August Prof. Rudi van Eldik was guest at the famous German TV Show "Stern TV" on RTL. In addition to clips of the Magic Show last October an interview with Günther Jauch and a many live experiments were shown.
