Subproject A1: Modeling and Simulation of the Metabolism of Drugs

The xenobiotic metabolizing system of mammalian liver comprises several enzyme families. Each family contains multiple isozymes with different substrate specificity and regulation of gene expression. The functionalization of xenobiotics in phase I is catalyzed by cytochrome P450 monooxygenases, flavin monooxygenases, alcohol- and aldehyde dehydrogenases, epoxide hydrolases, carboxylesterases, etc.

The focus of the project part A1 is directed to the most important drug metabolism enzyme family, the cytochrome P450 monooxygenases. The aims are the modeling and prediction
